In September 2013, the Shasta Historical Society successfully argued that the Wells Fargo Building historically significant and would require a CEQA according to Section V.a. Cause a substantial adverse change in the significance of a historical resources as defined in CEQA Guidelines 15064.5:

 

A) Is associated with events that have made a significant contribution to the broad patterns of California's history and cultural heritage;

(B) Is associated with the lives of persons important in our past;

R.G. Dunn worked there for many years.  He was Redding’s first City Treasurer and original board member of the Redding Bank, founded by C.C. Bush.  He was also the longest employed Wells Fargo Stage manager in the history of Wells Fargo.

 

(C) Embodies the distinctive characteristics of a type, period, region, or method of construction, or represents the work of an important creative individual, or possesses high artistic values;

The size, shape, exterior framing, and structural siding date to the original building and are indicative of a regional vernacular style of commercial and transportation buildings in Northern California.
