The Redding Railyard Project

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It’s easy. Just click “Edit Text” or double click me and you can start adding your own content and make changes to the font. Feel free to drag and drop me anywhere you like on your page. I’m a great place for you to tell a story and let your users know a little more about you.

The Problem:

The Union Pacific Railroad has let the Historic Wells Fargo Building fall into severe disrepair.  It is an eyesore surrounded by a railroad dumping yard.   In addition, the switching of rail cars in Downtown Redding routinely disrupts traffic – often for extended periods.  This is not acceptable.

The City of Redding has offered up land to the south in exchange for the dilapidated Union Pacific parcel.   In addition to relocating rail car switching operations, the possibilities for redeveloping the heart of Downtown are endless.  The Downtown Redding Specific Plan will be updated soon and can involve the community in envisioning its proper and respectable future.

Downtown Redding is not a Union Pacific priority – unless they’re given a reason to care.  The Historic Well Fargo Building can be that reason with your support.   At minimum, Downtown Redding advocates must insist that fees for health and safety code violations  be assessed (including retroactive fees if possible) and a full analysis of historical significance for the Wells Fargo depot be required.   Alternatively, the Union Pacific may choose to do Redding and itself a favor by exchanging the Downtown Redding property for city-owned land better suited for railroad operations.

Join us to organize a unified community voice and to provide the City Council the backing it needs to fight the blight of Union Pacific in Downtown Redding!

The Project:

The list of stakeholders have come together and under the guidance of Trilogy Architecture are putting together a master plan for the area under consideration. The City of Redding has recently received grant funding to create a downtown transportation plan AND update the downtown Redding Strategic Plan. With enough public support and action. We can get these plans to include the Redding Railyard project.
