The Railyard

Union Pacific is creating blighted and unsafe conditions in downtown Redding.  The downtown Railyard and historic Wells Fargo Express Building are being ignored by Union Pacific Railroad.

In September 2013, the Shasta Historical Society took a stand for our community and local history by working with the city to mandate that the Wells Fargo Building be brought up to code. As of the July 1, 2014 nothing has been done to protect the building or clean up the Railyard.  Today, I am inviting you to join me, Viva Downtown, and the Downtown Redding Business Association (DRBA) for a public meeting on how we can help improve the Railyard and Redding.

The City of Redding began negotiations to remove this blight by moving the rail yard south of town near other industrial sites.  The most recent communication from Union Pacific’s attorney to the City indicated there had been no "traction" in the land swap deal.

We need to step forward now in support of the City's efforts to move Union Pacific out of downtown.  Join other individuals, businesses, and community organizations who support a clean and safe downtown.
