Dear Redding City Council,

The undersigned entities and individuals support the City Council to use all available tools and resources to acquire the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) parcel in the heart of Downtown Redding. We support the city's action on this matter to address longstanding blight, resolve health and safety issues, and expand economic development opportunity.

We understand that your efforts over the years to exchange city-owned parcels for the railyard have not gained traction with UPRR. We support the land swap, addressing building code violations, and protecting the historical Wells Fargo Express Building.

We believe the timing of this opportunity is ideal, as the City will soon begin the Downtown Redding Transportation Plan and Downtown Redding Specific Plan Update. Furthermore, several near-term grant funding opportunities could hasten the productive use of this vacant and underutilized parcel. What is now an unsafe and blighted property could soon become the centerpiece in the ongoing revitalization of Downtown Redding.

Seldom is there an issue with such broad consensus and that offers such diverse benefits to the community. Be it known that the Council has the full backing and support of the community to pursue the land swap.  As illustrated on this project website, advocates of Downtown Redding stand ready to contribute to the development of the project and pursue financing options.

We voice our support of the City to move forward on this important issue.

Sincerely,

Thank you for your support!
